TE TAI NUI A HAU is a large scale marine protected area established by the indigenous peoples of the Marquesas. The site was in the process of legal establishment through the French Polynesian Government in partnership with France, mayors of Marquesas and professional representatives and the civil society. Currently, ICCA or Indigenous Community Conservation Area status is being sought.

The MPA supports and protects culture and intergenerational connection of community to this very special marine area. The region holds near pristine beauty and is home to an incredibly rich biodiversity where an abundance of planktons attract a great number of hammerhead sharks, marine mammals and endemic species.
